A new scientific study has found a connection between curvy women and smarter kids, and it may explain why men are attracted to this body type.
According to research commissioned by Professor Will Lassek, a public-health epidemiologist at Pittsburgh University, Pennsylvania women with bigger thighs, hips and buttocks produce smarter children than their thin counterparts.
The secret reportedly lies in the type of fat stored in these body parts.
‘The fat in these areas is a depot for building a baby’s brain’, Professor was quoted saying. The findings are also published in Dr Lassek’s recent book, Why Women Need Fat.
“You need lots of fat to make a nervous system and the fats in these areas are also enriched in DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which is a particularly important component in the human brain.
“It looks as if women have evolved to accumulate these fats and hold on to them – until a baby arrives,” he said.
Another expert David Bainbridge, a reproductive biologist at Cambridge University agreed with the findings from Dr Lassek’s research, adding that this could explain why men find curvy women such as singer Jennifer Lopez so attractive.
‘The brain-building, breast-milk lipids (fats) are largely derived from the fat stored in a mother’s thighs and buttocks,’ he told dailymail.co.uk.This is not the first scientific explanation for why certain men prefer these body types.
‘Women with larger thighs have higher levels of these lipids. There is even evidence that they and their children are more intelligent as a result.’
Research reported on last year found that when men are hungry, they prefer curvy women, because their shape suggests they have more access to food, The Daily Mail reported.
"If a man is hungry, they prefer slightly larger [breast] sizes and slightly larger [women]. If a [woman] is hungry they prefer more muscular men," University of Westminster psychologist Dr. Viren Swami said at the time. "These are clues about resources. If you are hungry you want resources and a partner who has resources. Someone who is heavier has access to food."
