The Niger State Police Command on Sunday arrested one Garba Sani for allegedly using a cutlass to kill his neighbour, Nura Mallam, following a misunderstanding in Shantali Dukku community, in the Rijau Local Government Area of the state.
It was learnt that the deceased’s father, Maje Mallam, reported the matter to the police in the Rijau division who promptly arrested Sani.
Northern City News gathered that Sani, 33, inflicted deep cuts on the victim, which led to his death.
Sani told PUNCH correspondent that he killed Mallam, 31, with a cutlass because of accumulated misunderstandings between them.
He said, “I killed him because he always opposed and abused me in public whenever we are trying to sort things out. I have warned him several times to desist from abusing me whenever we had a misunderstanding.
“I didn’t have the intention to kill him, but I did so out of extreme provocation. I don’t know what to say again, I am sorry.”
The command Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspect had confessed to the crime, noting that he would be arraigned in court soon.
