It is 400 appearances for Manchester City for David Silva and 400 goals – for club and country – for Sergio Aguero. For all of the remarkable talent brought to City in the past few years it is two players who arrived in the first flush of Abu Dhabi investment who continue to make their mark.
This is Silva’s final season at City, and his final season in English football, and the 33-year-old provided two more assists as Bournemouth were eventually defeated. One of those assists was for Aguero, 31, who now has 235 City goals and Silva was even involved in the build-up to the striker’s first predatory strike.
Not that Bournemouth were cowed. They will argue the game’s pivotal moment came after a dozen minutes when referee Andre Marriner yellow-carded rather than sent off Ederson after the goalkeeper rushed from goal and caught striker Callum Wilson.
