Arsenal are closing in on a deal that will see Kai Havertz switch from Chelsea to the Gunners to the tune of £65million – with Arsenal setting up a medical for the German
Arsenal are closing in on the signature of Kai Havertz – with the Gunners set to organise a medical for the Chelsea man.
The Gunners are set to part ways with £65million for Havertz, with Chelsea needing to trim their squad over the summer. The Blues signed a number of marquee players last campaign – and more new faces look set to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
As a result, Mauricio Pochettino is looking to move on the deadweight – while Arsenal are looking to boost their squad depth. According to The Athletic, Chelsea and Arsenal are close to agreeing a huge deal for the attacker.
The two clubs are now agreeing on the final details of the deal, and a medical has been set up for the Chelsea star. Havertz joined Chelsea in 2020, for £72m, and he has managed 32 goals in 139 appearances.
However, Arsenal’s top priority remains Declan Rice this summer, but the Englishman could cost the Gunners another £100m.
Arsenal have already submitted two bids for Rice, but the Hammers have rejected both having failed to meet their valuation. And Arsenal’s latest bid reportedly left the Hammers ‘fuming’ with the lack of progress in negotiations.
West Ham chairman David Sullivan revealed Rice wanted to leave on talkSPORT, in the wake of the club’s Europa Conference League final success. He said: “I think it has to be. We promised him he could go. He set his heart on going. You can’t ask for a man who has committed more to us this season.
“In due course, he has to get on and we have to get a replacement – or several replacements. It’s not something we want to happen. We offered him £200,000-a-week 18 months ago. He turned it down.”
