A 25-year-old man, Sherif Adeleke, on Thursday, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for alleged land grabbing.
Adeleke, whose address was not provided, is charged with conspiracy forceful trespass on landed property, and threat of violence capable of causing breach of peace.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 8, at about 11. 00 a.m. at Akufo Village, Onigborogi, Ibadan.
He alleged that Adeleke and others at large, on the same date and place, unlawfully grabbed and entered one acre of land belonging to one Mr Abdulganiyu Shakirulahi.
Amusan also told the court that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by reselling the land he already sold for N2.5 million sometime in 2020 to Shakirulahi.
He alleged that the defendant unlawfully threatened Shakirulahi’s life with violence over the land, and fraudulently converted the N2.5 million to his own personal use.
Amusan said that the offences contravened the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
He added that it contravened the Oyo State Real Property Protection and Prohibition of Land Grabbing Law, 2016.
The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 14 for hearing. (NAN)
