Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kayode Ariwoola; Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and other legal giants were in attendance today Monday 19th February 2024, at the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, during the special valedictory court session in honour of former Ondo State governor, late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON.
Akeredolu spent most part of his law practice in the Oyo state judiciary and rose to become SAN and the National President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and later served as the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in Ondo State.
LOYOLA COLLEGE ALUMNI HONOUR LATE ONDO GOV, AKEREDOLU
The Loyola Day of Tributes organized by the Alumni of Loyola college, Agodi, Ibadan for Late Ondo State governor Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was yet another opportunity to shower encomium on the late Governor who lived and made an indelible mark on the sands of time.
In his welcome address during the event held in Ibadan on Sunday, the National president, Loyola College Old Boys Association, LOCOBA, Ibadan, Professor Femi Ogunbiyi said Late Rotimi Akeredolu made an indellible impact not only in Loyola college, Ibadan and Ondo State but also in Nigeria at large.
Professor Ogunbiyi who is also a professor chemical pathology, university college hospital, Ibadan noted that the tribute became important in view of the numerous contributions of the late governor to the development and growth of Loyola College.
Other old students and legal practitioners including the national secretary of LOCOBA, Mr Gabriel Akande said the late governor took the bold step in confronting the menace of kidnapping in Ondo state leading to the formation of the Western security network, Amotekun in the southwest zone of Nigeria.
In a sermon, the Parish Priest, Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, Monsignor, Joseph Idowu urged the congregation to live a life worthy of emulation like late governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Monsignor Idowu who attributed the current socio economic situation in Nigeria to the unpatriotic life of past leaders emphasized the need for all to work towards the good of their fatherland.
In an interview, the brother of Late Rotimi Akeredolu, Professor Oluwole Akeredolu said the testimonies of Nigerians on the good deeds of his brother remained a motivation in the right direction for the family .
Highpoint of the event included special prayer for the family of the late governor, special songs and candle light procession.
