A tragic accident occurred early Sunday when an ambulance driver lost his life in a collision with a truck near TREM Church, heading towards Gbagada on the Oworonshoki Expressway, Lagos.
Eyewitnesses reported that the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. and involved an ambulance with license plate JBD-405HA and an unidentified articulated truck.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed the incident and provided details from preliminary investigations. According to the findings, the truck was struck from the side, causing it to lose control and swerve into another lane.
“This sudden lane shift led to the ambulance, which was approaching at high speed, crashing under the truck. Sadly, the ambulance driver was trapped inside and died from his injuries,” Oke-Osanyintolu reported.
LASEMA and other emergency responders arrived quickly to clear the scene, ensuring safety and restoring traffic flow. The driver’s body was retrieved and handed over to the Ambulance Association for transport to the morgue, and the vehicles involved were taken into custody by the Nigerian Police for further investigation.
