Manchester United has officially announced the departure of Erik ten Hag as head coach. The Dutch manager, who has led the team for two and a half years, was informed of the decision on Monday morning.
His final match in charge was the recent Premier League loss to West Ham United, which left United sitting 14th in the league table.
Despite securing only three wins out of nine league games, and four from 14 across all competitions, Manchester United expressed gratitude for ten Hag's contributions.
Under his leadership, the club won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
A club statement reads: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.
Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”
Moving forward, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was hired in the offseason to work alongside ten Hag, has been asked to take on the role of interim head coach.
The rest of the coaching staff will remain in place as the club assesses its next steps.
