Engr. Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, FNES, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the 3rd Convocation Ceremony of Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), held in Ibusa, Delta State, on November 22, 2024.
In his address on behalf of the President, Professor Rim-Rukeh emphasized the pivotal role of research in tackling Nigeria's pressing challenges, urging ADUN to channel its academic efforts toward finding innovative solutions to issues in security, economic development, and infrastructure.
He praised the university's initiative to establish faculties of engineering and marine studies, noting their potential to boost shipbuilding, maintenance, and related industries. These advancements, he said, will not only enhance technological growth but also create significant employment opportunities.
President Tinubu also highlighted the federal government’s investment in education, revealing that over ₦70 billion has been disbursed through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) to support students, underscoring the administration's commitment to empowering the youth through education.
Speaking at the event, Professor Rim-Rukeh reaffirmed the government's dedication to fostering academic and research excellence at ADUN, stressing the critical importance of innovation in driving national development.
The convocation ceremony included the conferment of degrees and awards, celebrating ADUN's notable contributions to Nigeria's educational progress and its mission to nurture future leaders.
