The political crisis in Rivers State took another turn on Sunday as Governor Siminalayi Fubara invited the faction of the House of Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule for a meeting.
The invitation was contained in a letter issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, and made available to journalists in Port Harcourt.
According to the letter, the meeting, set for Monday, March 10, 2025, was scheduled following the governor’s receipt of the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment.
The discussions will focus on finding a suitable venue for the lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to hold their sittings, addressing the payment of outstanding remunerations and allowances, and deliberating on the 2025 budget, among other pressing state matters.
Danagogo stated that the governor’s decision to hold the meeting aligns with his earlier promise made in a letter dated March 5, 2025.
He emphasized the need for all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to attend the meeting, which is set to take place at 10 a.m. at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The letter concluded with an appeal to the lawmakers to honor the invitation, highlighting the importance of working together in the interest of the people of Rivers State.
