First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Marks World Health Day 2025 with a Call for Maternal and Newborn Health Prioritization
Abuja, Nigeria – April 7, 2025 — The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has joined the global community in commemorating World Health Day 2025 with a passionate call to action on maternal and newborn health.
In a statement released on Monday, April 7, Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of the 2025 theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” describing it as a timely reminder that prioritizing the health of mothers and newborns is both a moral imperative and a key pillar of sustainable development.
“Every day, far too many women and newborns lose their lives due to preventable complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period,” the First Lady said. “No mother should have to risk her life to bring a child into the world, and no newborn should be denied a fair chance at survival.”
She urged stakeholders across all sectors to unite in ensuring a future where every mother can deliver safely and every child can grow up healthy and thrive.
Senator Tinubu also extended heartfelt appreciation to health workers across the country and around the world, commending their dedication and sacrifice in building a healthier society.
“Congratulations to all our health workers for your great sacrifice to make the world a healthy place. Thank you,” she stated.
World Health Day is observed annually on April 7 to raise awareness on key global health issues. This year’s focus spotlights the need for robust healthcare systems that support women and children from the earliest stages of life.
Happy World Health Day!
