The Bayelsa State Government has bid farewell to its contingent heading to the 22nd National Sports Festival set to take place in Ogun State, with a rallying call to bring glory to the state.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon Daniel Igali, sent his goodwill message to the delegation, which departed Yenagoa on Friday. The team was led by Sir Braveman Wodi, Director of Sports at the Bayelsa State Sports Council.
In his address, Hon Igali stated that he is confident in the athletes, noting that while some may be making their debut at the national level, the festival presents a golden opportunity to shine and make Bayelsa proud.
He said: “Let me remind you that you’re carrying the hopes and aspirations of Bayelsans.
The governor of our dear state is very optimistic of a good outing and is committed to encouraging you to excel without any hindrance.”
The Commissioner charged the team to build on the impressive legacy of previous competitions, reminding them that Bayelsa finished second at the last edition of the festival held in Asaba, Delta State, in 2022.
Wishing them a safe journey, Igali urged the athletes to be exemplary in conduct, representing Bayelsa with pride both on and off the field.
He said: “Bayelsa came second at the last edition of the Nigerian olympic Games version that took place in Asaba, Delta State, in 2022.”
