In a bold and strategic move to reduce road traffic accidents in Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule has launched a statewide traffic enforcement campaign in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The initiative, tagged Operation Sanity, aims to combat reckless driving, promote compliance with traffic laws, and foster a culture of safety on the roads.
The campaign was officially flagged off on Tuesday, May 27, in Lafia, the state capital, during a special mobile court session attended by top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, and members of the State Executive Council.
Governor Sule, while addressing the gathering, declared that the era of lawlessness on Nasarawa roads was over. He emphasized the government’s firm commitment to safeguarding lives and property through sustained road safety measures.
“We will not stand idly by while lives are lost to preventable crashes,” the Governor said. “Through Operation Sanity, we are sending a strong message that reckless driving will no longer be tolerated in Nasarawa State.”
He further pledged the state’s full support for the FRSC in executing the campaign and said public enlightenment platforms would be leveraged to reinforce the importance of responsible driving. He called on all residents to take ownership of the campaign and support the effort to make Nasarawa’s roads safer.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described Operation Sanity as a multi-dimensional strategy designed to improve road safety outcomes across the state. He said the operation would involve robust public education, strict enforcement of traffic regulations, and regular mobile court sessions to prosecute traffic offenders.
“This operation is not just about enforcement,” Mohammed stated. “It is a holistic intervention that brings together stakeholders from the transport sector, civil society, and law enforcement to build a safer road environment.”
According to him, the ultimate goal is to position Nasarawa as a model state for road safety, reduce accident rates, and drive economic development through improved transportation systems.
As Nasarawa State takes this decisive step toward reclaiming safety on its roads, residents are hopeful that the initiative will usher in a new era of discipline and responsibility among road users.
