… as labour leaders hail Aiyedatiwa over worker’s walfare
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has commended workers as the driving force behind the state’s development, citing their resilience, commitment, and integrity as key to the successes recorded under his administration.
He made this remark during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration held at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade in Akure.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, highlighting several interventions, including the prompt implementation of the new minimum wage law.
Ondo State was among the first to adopt the N70,000 benchmark and further increased its minimum wage to N73,000. Retirees now receive a monthly pension award of N30,000.
This was contained in a statement on Thursday signed by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration has also focused on career growth, with promotions up-to-date and the 2025 exercise already underway.
The state has recruited over 3,000 workers, including over 2,000 new teachers, to strengthen critical sectors. Additionally, the government has paid three years’ backlog of gratuities for retired public servants and local government workers.
In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa said: “As we continue in the journey of our administration, I want our workers to be rest assured of the patronage and protection of the state government. We shall not sacrifice the welfare of our workers on the altar of politics. Our administration will always strive, within the limits of its resources, to ensure that workers’ welfare is given priority consideration. We will keep investing in education, health, and capacity building, ensuring that every worker enjoys dignity and fulfillment in and out of service.”
Labour leaders praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his inclusive leadership and commitment to workers’ welfare.
Comrade Ademola Olapade, Chairperson of the Ondo State NLC, commended the governor for prioritising workers’ welfare through the approval of the new minimum wage, promotions, and recruitment of teachers.
Comrade Clement Fatuase, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Ondo State Council, also praised the governor’s efforts in education, security, infrastructure, and healthcare.
