Nigeria Customs Launches Indigenous UCMS Platform “Bódogwu” in Port Harcourt II Command
Game-Changer for Trade Efficiency and Revenue Optimization
In a significant leap toward trade modernization, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially deployed its indigenous technology platform, the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS)—popularly known as Bódogwu—at the Port Harcourt II Area Command, Onne.
This groundbreaking development marks a major milestone in the Service’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, boost compliance, and optimize revenue collection through full automation.
Speaking at the launch, Comptroller Mohammed Babandede, Customs Area Controller for the Command, emphasized the critical role of digital transformation in improving Customs operations.
“It is imperative for the Command to align with the Service’s drive to fully automate its services. The introduction of Bódogwu will significantly improve efficiency, enhance trade compliance, and maximize revenue collection,” he stated.
The highlight of the event was the successful processing and release of the first Single Goods Declaration (SGD) on the Bódogwu platform, with reference number C1202505PN. Comptroller Babandede described the moment as a “giant stride” under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
“This technology ensures the efficient and timely clearance of goods, drastically reducing delays and costs for importers and exporters,” he noted.
The historic release was witnessed by Customs officers and stakeholders, including clearing agents and freight forwarders. Among them was Mr. Iroegbu Samuel, the first licensed agent to process cargo using the new platform. He praised the system’s simplicity, speed, and flexibility when compared to the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS II).
“From capturing to release, the process was impressively fast. Bódogwu is user-friendly and even more flexible than the NICIS platform. There’s no need for concern—it’s a smooth transition,” he affirmed.
Comptroller Babandede urged stakeholders and the trading public to embrace the Bódogwu platform, noting that it represents the future of Customs administration in Nigeria.
“We invite all stakeholders to experience the benefits of Bódogwu and support the Service in transforming the nation's trade ecosystem,” he concluded.
The Unified Customs Management System was developed in-house by the Nigeria Customs Service to localize and enhance its core operations while ensuring data sovereignty, process transparency, and sustainable digital innovation.
With the Port Harcourt II Command pioneering the deployment, the NCS is expected to scale the Bódogwu platform across other Commands nationwide in the coming months.
