UN experts are urgently demanding immediate international intervention to stop Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, warning that continued inaction could lead to the “annihilation of the Palestinian population” in the besieged territory.
Dozens of independent United Nations experts issued a joint statement on Wednesday, warning that countries of the world are at a moral crossroads over Israel's atrocities in Gaza, which they said "follow alarming, documented patterns of genocidal conduct."
"Remain passive and witness the slaughter of innocents or take part in crafting a just resolution," they said, urging the world to avert the "moral abyss we are descending into.”
The experts said, "while states debate terminology -- is it or is it not genocide? -- Israel continues its relentless destruction of life in Gaza.”
“No one is spared -- not the children, persons with disabilities, nursing mothers, journalists, health professionals, aid workers, or hostages.”
The statement also highlighted the devastating impact of the regime’s total blockade on aid to Gaza.
Israel has blocked the entry of medical, fuel, and food supplies into Gaza since the military broke a two-month ceasefire agreement with Hamas in mid-March.
The experts said, "Food and water have been cut off for months, inducing starvation, dehydration, and disease, which will result in more deaths becoming the daily reality for many.”
They also warned that countries continuing to support Israel, especially militarily but also politically, risk "complicity in genocide and other serious international crimes.”
On Tuesday, Israel’s finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, threatened that the regime will “entirely” destroy Gaza and send its civilians “in great numbers to third countries.”
Nearly all of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million has been displaced, often multiple times, since the regime launched its genocidal war on the territory in October 2023.
