…Says PDP, LP, others are ‘feeder parties’ to APC
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Mr Omoyele Sowore, has claimed that virtually all political parties in Nigeria, except his African Action Congress (AAC), are under the indirect control of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Channels TV’s “Rubbin’ Minds” on Sunday, Sowore alleged that several opposition parties in Nigeria are “special-purpose vehicles” created or co-opted by the APC to manipulate the political and electoral system.
“What we found out in our little research is that most of the parties that are left, apart from AAC, are parties that were created by the major parties,” he said.
He described such parties as “feeder parties,” claiming they are activated during elections to serve APC’s legal or strategic interests. According to him, these parties are paid to file court cases and withdraw them later for backdoor settlements.
He added: “Sometimes, some of the candidates or the parties are meant to help them with legal challenge.
“So they all go and challenge the election, and whomever has won would approach either the opposition party or the smaller parties and settle them. Everybody gets paid and walks away.”
He added: “Labour Party is the worst,” he declared, accusing its members of political opportunism.
He described the LP as a “short rental” vehicle, stating that the party lacked ideological grounding and was largely populated by recycled politicians.
Sowore also took aim at the conduct of opposition parties during meetings with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that many of them defend the APC rather than oppose it.
“The people that oppose us the most when we go to meetings are these other smaller parties that you think are in the opposition,” he said.
The AAC founder maintained that his party remains the only genuine opposition among Nigeria’s 18 registered political parties and pledged to continue advocating for revolutionary change, not cosmetic reforms.
