A senior figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and former Commandant of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi (Rtd), has alleged that Nigeria’s growing security challenges are being fuelled by a deliberate campaign orchestrated by opposition forces to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Adewinbi made the allegation over the weekend while receiving the APC National Women Leader, Mrs Mary Alile, at his residence in Ede, Osun State.
According to him, the worsening insecurity is politically motivated and tied to a broader effort to discredit the President.
“These worsening security issues are not separate from the political climate in the country,” Adewinbi stated.
“There is a deliberate effort by the opposition to frustrate President Bola Tinubu. They are working to make governance seem unachievable and to portray the President as ineffective.”
Despite the concerns, he expressed strong faith in President Tinubu’s leadership and ability to address the situation.
“The President is fully in control. He holds regular strategy sessions with security and service chiefs to tackle these issues.
“The government is also preparing to roll out advanced technology to strengthen the fight against terrorism, insecurity, and banditry.”
Adewinbi disclosed that new surveillance tools, including drones and other intelligence-gathering equipment, would soon be deployed to track and neutralise criminal groups.
“I’m aware the government is in the process of acquiring drones and other modern surveillance systems capable of producing actionable intelligence on the whereabouts of bandits and terrorists,” he said.
On the purpose of Mrs Alile’s visit, Adewinbi described it as a gesture of party solidarity and a demonstration of internal party cohesion.
Mrs Mary Alile, addressing APC members and supporters gathered to welcome her, reaffirmed her resolve to promote the participation of women in governance.
“I remain committed to pushing for greater inclusion of women in government,” she said.
“Looking ahead to the 2026 election, the position of Deputy Governor in Osun should be allocated to a woman. I assure you that your concerns and proposals will be relayed to our leaders in Abuja.”
She also urged the party to ensure women are better represented in future elections.
The visit forms part of ongoing party consultations taking place across the country, as the APC begins internal mobilisations ahead of the next election cycle.
