LASTMA Refutes Allegations of Misconduct in Surulere, Urges Complainant to Provide Evidence
Lagos, Nigeria – June 19, 2025
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has officially responded to allegations of misconduct leveled against some of its personnel by a social media user, Mr. Chiemelle Kyriam Offor. The claims, made via Facebook, accused unnamed LASTMA officers of improper behavior during an operation in the Iponri area of Surulere on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
In a press statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA disclosed that a thorough internal investigation was immediately launched following the viral post.
According to the agency, the review involved a detailed debriefing of officers deployed to the Surulere/Iponri corridor, examination of duty rosters and operational logs, and physical checks within the area in question.
Key findings from the investigation revealed that:
There were no operational records supporting the reported incident;
Officers on duty in the area denied any such occurrence;
Efforts to reach Mr. Offor via his Twitter (X) handle to obtain further information — such as vehicle registration, officer identification, or any evidence — were unsuccessful;
The hospital referenced in the complaint, "Faithview Hospital," could not be located in the Surulere axis after verification.
"In the absence of verifiable evidence or actionable details, LASTMA finds no basis to substantiate the allegations," the statement read.
While maintaining that the agency treats all complaints seriously, LASTMA reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and public accountability. The authority also highlighted its newly launched toll-free hotline (080000527862), which allows members of the public to report incidents or provide real-time feedback.
"LASTMA is committed to upholding ethical standards in its operations and will continue to investigate all credible reports with due diligence," the statement added.
The agency urged Mr. Offor or any eyewitness to come forward with relevant details that could aid further investigation, assuring the public that no legitimate complaint would be ignored.
LASTMA reaffirmed its dedication to lawful and citizen-centered traffic management in Lagos State.
