The Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has said that the security concerns and recent cases of kidnapping in Abraka, located in Ethiope East Local Government Area, have been brought under control.
Dr. Oghenesivbe, speaking on the "Orientation Panorama" programme aired on Voice of Delta Radio in Asaba on Wednesday, revealed that a joint operation by the state police command and other security agencies has led to the elimination of four suspected kidnappers who had been terrorizing the area.
He assured residents that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains committed to working closely with security agencies to apprehend and prosecute criminal elements, particularly kidnappers and cybercriminals, commonly referred to as Yahoo boys.
He commended the proactive efforts of Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and his operatives, noting their swift responses to distress calls and coordinated actions that have resulted in the arrest and prosecution of several suspects.
Highlighting the government's commitment to public safety, Dr. Oghenesivbe said the state had recently acquired over 40 Hilux vehicles to boost the operational capacity of security forces, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He emphasized that this aligns with the governor's "Renewed Hope for MORE" agenda, aimed at ensuring safety and development across the state.
Dr. Oghenesivbe described Delta as the fourth-largest economy in Nigeria and stressed that maintaining peace and security is crucial for sustaining investment and tourism in the state.
He praised Governor Oborevwori’s performance across various sectors and reaffirmed that the state remains safe and welcoming.
While acknowledging the right of citizens to stage peaceful protests to draw attention to pressing issues, the Bureau Chief cautioned against allowing such demonstrations to be hijacked by criminal elements.
He concluded by reiterating the state government’s dedication to the safety and well-being of all Deltans, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic backgrounds, and assured that the Oborevwori administration's security strategy will remain effective even beyond 2027.
