FRSC Corps Marshal Hails Customs CG Adewale Adeniyi on Historic WCO Council Chairmanship
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has extended warm congratulations to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his historic election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.
In a statement released by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC boss joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in celebrating Adeniyi’s global recognition, describing the appointment as a testament to his visionary leadership, dedication, and commitment to excellence.
"The emergence of CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi as Chairperson of the WCO Council is not only a personal accomplishment but also a national pride," the Corps Marshal said. "It reflects Nigeria’s competence and the confidence the international community has in our capacity to contribute meaningfully to global governance in trade and customs management."
Shehu Mohammed also lauded the transformational reforms led by Adeniyi at the Nigeria Customs Service, noting that his leadership has repositioned the agency as a model of professionalism and efficiency across Africa.
In a related development, the Corps Marshal also celebrated Nigeria’s and the FRSC’s successful bid to host the Permanent Secretariat of the African Association of all Road Safety Lead Agencies (AARSLA). He described this milestone as further affirmation of Nigeria's growing international influence in road safety, traffic administration, and public service delivery.
He said the strategic positioning of the FRSC as the AARSLA Permanent Secretariat would enable the Corps to coordinate road safety initiatives across the African continent, promote global best practices, and foster partnerships aimed at achieving the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety goals.
According to him, the dual recognitions of the Nigeria Customs Service and the FRSC mark a new chapter in Nigeria’s leadership on the global and continental stages in trade facilitation and road safety management.
The Corps Marshal expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for agencies like the FRSC and NCS to thrive, citing the President’s unwavering commitment to institutional growth and international relevance.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to collaboration with sister agencies such as the Nigeria Customs Service to strengthen national security, enhance road safety, and contribute to a more prosperous Nigeria.
