…Pledge to deliver state for Tinubu in 2027
Scores of Labour Party (LP) members from four local government areas in Lagos Central Senatorial District have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring their readiness to work for the ruling party’s success in the upcoming July 12 council polls and beyond.
The defectors, led by Prince Femi Badia, LP Chairman in Apapa Local Government Area, made their declaration at the APC’s mega rally held on Tuesday at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos Island.
Badia explained that the group’s decision was informed by what he described as the progressive agenda and track record of both President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“We are here to join the progressives. We are convinced by the good works of President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu. We pledge our support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and promise to deliver our polling units for the APC,” he said.
Receiving the defectors, Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, welcomed them into the party and assured them that loyalty and dedication within the APC are recognised and rewarded.
“I welcome you to APC and commend you for acknowledging the achievements of President Tinubu and our governor. Our party remains the dominant political structure in Lagos State,” Ojelabi said.
He also expressed confidence that the APC would win all 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the forthcoming elections.
“We began this campaign in peace, and we are concluding it in peace. Our canvassers are actively engaging voters, and I encourage everyone to rally behind our candidates. The APC has been delivering in Lagos since 1999 and will continue to do so,” he added.
Chairman of the APC Campaign Council, Babatunde Balogun, described the defectors as seasoned political figures who have made a strategic decision to align with the progressives. He assured them that they would be fully integrated into the party’s activities.
Other party chieftains in attendance included Chairman of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, Dr Tajudeen Olusi; APC Vice Chairman for Lagos Central, Balogun Daramola; Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda; and Senator Wasiu Sanni-Eshinlokun.
They collectively encouraged residents of Lagos Central to come out in large numbers to vote for APC candidates in the council elections.
The rally, dubbed the “mother of all rallies” by party leaders, brought together APC stakeholders from across Lagos Central and various ethnic and community representatives from across the state.
