Mohammed Babangida, son of former military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida, has formally declined his appointment as chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BoA), citing personal and professional reasons.
In a letter dated July 21, 2025, addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Babangida expressed deep gratitude for the nomination, describing it as “a true privilege” to be considered for such a strategic role in Nigeria’s agricultural and economic advancement.
However, he said the decision to step down came after “careful reflection and consultation.”
“This decision was not made lightly,” Babangida wrote. “It stems from a convergence of personal and professional considerations which, at this time, would not allow me to serve with the level of focus and commitment the position rightly demands.”
Despite turning down the role, Babangida reaffirmed his full support for the Tinubu administration’s national development goals.
“I remain fully committed to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria under your leadership,” he said, adding that he remains open to serving in other capacities where his expertise may be useful.
“Thank you once again for your confidence in me. I am deeply appreciative,” the letter concluded.
Babangida’s decision comes at a time when the federal government is placing renewed emphasis on agriculture as a cornerstone of its economic diversification agenda. The Bank of Agriculture is central to this mission, serving as a key driver of agribusiness financing and rural development initiatives across the country.
