The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has confirmed dates for the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026.
Speaking in Osogbo on Monday during a preparatory meeting with Electoral Officers (EOs), the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Mutiu Agboke, disclosed that the CVR will begin in two phases: the online registration phase will start on August 18, 2025, followed by physical, in-person registration from August 25, 2025.
Dr Agboke said the meeting was convened to evaluate the readiness of Electoral Officers, deliberate on operational strategies, and assess logistical arrangements for the CVR exercise.
“We are here to understand your level of preparedness, identify any challenges, and ensure appropriate plans are in place for a seamless registration process,” he said.
He explained that the second part of the engagement would focus on evaluating the condition of INEC offices across local government areas, particularly in terms of infrastructure, logistics, and personnel.
“This meeting provides an internal opportunity for review before we open up discussions with wider stakeholder groups. We need to align our approach, examine what is working and what needs adjustment,” Dr Agboke stated.
He further reiterated that the online registration platform will go live on August 18, while the physical registration centres will open on August 25.
“It’s important we speak frankly and work cohesively before external stakeholders come on board. This process is critical in building trust and ensuring voter access in preparation for the 2026 governorship election,” he added.
The REC also commended the Electoral Officers for their commitment and encouraged them to ensure INEC offices at the local government level remain fully operational and prepared for the task ahead.
