Sanwo-Olu Commissions Abaranje Road, Reaffirms Commitment to Infrastructure Development in Alimosho

LAGOS — In a renewed show of commitment to grassroots development, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday commissioned the reconstructed Abaranje Road in the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Alimosho. The long-anticipated road project, which connects several key communities, marks another milestone in the administration’s urban renewal and infrastructure expansion agenda.
The commissioning ceremony attracted a large crowd of enthusiastic residents, political leaders, and stakeholders from across Alimosho. It was hosted by the Executive Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Hon. Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, who expressed deep appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritising the infrastructural needs of the people.
In his welcome remarks, Hon. Akinsanya described the completion of Abaranje Road as a “transformational project” that will ease mobility, open up economic opportunities, and improve quality of life for residents. He, however, used the occasion to appeal to the Governor to urgently consider the reconstruction of the Isheri-Osun Road, which he said has remained in deplorable condition, thereby cutting off residents of the area from adjoining commercial hubs and stalling development.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Kehinde Joseph, representing Alimosho Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, praised the Governor for delivering on his promise to upgrade road infrastructure in Alimosho. He backed the call for the extension of the Abaranje Road to connect Akesan and Isheri-Osun communities, and further requested the construction of a new bridge in Ikotun—similar to the recently completed Pen Cinema Bridge in Agege—to reduce traffic gridlock and improve connectivity.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Infrastructure, Hon. Desmond Elliot, reiterated the legislature’s support for the administration’s infrastructural drive. He noted that road projects had been fairly distributed across the five divisions of the state and expressed optimism that the Governor would heed the calls for more roads and bridges in Alimosho.
Responding to the various requests, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his government’s commitment to equitable development across all parts of Lagos. He revealed that he had made a spontaneous stop earlier that day at the Igando roundabout, where he spoke with residents and assured them that work would soon begin on the long-awaited bridge project in the area.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the Governor pointed to the completed Dopemu Road—now renamed Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road—as part of the broader strategy to improve inter-community road networks across Lagos.
“Abaranje Road is more than just a road; it is a lifeline that links people, markets, and opportunities,” Sanwo-Olu declared. “It is a testament to our promise to not leave any community behind. We are committed to building roads that connect lives, foster growth, and bring prosperity to every corner of Lagos.”
The event also featured goodwill messages from other prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, Lagos State APC Chairman, commended the Governor for delivering people-oriented projects and called on residents of Igando-Ikotun and Alimosho to come out en masse and support the APC in the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for July 12.
Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Chief Femi Pedro, who was also present at the event, echoed similar sentiments. He stated that the APC remains the party to beat, having consistently delivered development across all sectors. “We are fully prepared for the elections. We urge all Lagosians to vote for the APC for continued progress, infrastructural development, and grassroots empowerment,” he said.
Residents of Abaranje, many of whom had suffered for years due to the dilapidated state of the road, hailed the project as a dream come true. They expressed optimism that the government's renewed attention to the area would spur further developments.
With the commissioning of Abaranje Road, the Sanwo-Olu administration continues to demonstrate its resolve to close the infrastructure gap in densely populated communities, especially in Alimosho—the most populous local government area in Lagos State.
