President Bola Tinubu and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal have expressed grief over the passing of the Emir of Gusau, Dr Ibrahim Bello, who died on Friday morning in Abuja at the age of 71.
In his condolence message, President Tinubu described the monarch’s death as a loss felt far beyond his emirate, recalling his lifelong record of service and dedication.
He said the late emir would be remembered for “his sense of duty, unwavering commitment to his people and distinguished leadership.”
The President conveyed his sympathy to the government and people of Zamfara State as well as the family of the late traditional ruler, offering prayers for Allah’s mercy on his soul.
Governor Lawal, in his own tribute, described the Emir’s passing as a personal loss, describing him as a dependable royal father and an exemplary leader who dedicated himself to the progress of Zamfara State.
A statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, read, “I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the immediate and extended families of the late emir, the Gusau emirate, and the entire people of Zamfara State.
“His Highness’s death is a profound loss for the people of Zamfara, for the North, and for Nigeria as a whole.
“The late royal father devoted a decade to serving his people after ascending the throne as the 15th Emir of Gusau on 16 March 2015. He led with commitment, dedication, and deep faith.
“He was an accomplished civil servant who rose to the esteemed position of Permanent Secretary during his service in the old Sokoto and Zamfara states.
“I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guided me and other state leaders. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah.”
