Awka, August 8, 2025 – Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) have urged residents to desist from spreading misinformation and disinformation, especially as the state prepares for the forthcoming elections.
At its 17th meeting, held on August 7, 2025, at the Light House, Awka, ANSEC stressed the need for citizens to rely on credible sources and verify facts before sharing information. Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, who disclosed this after the meeting, said the measure is aimed at maintaining peace, preventing the circulation of fake news, and safeguarding public order.
Governor Soludo’s administration has backed its peace efforts with the enactment of the Homeland Security Law, which established the state security network, Agunaechemba, and the Operation Udo Ga-Ach force. These security outfits work alongside existing law enforcement agencies to combat crime under a zero-tolerance policy.
The Homeland Security Law also assigns clear responsibilities to security supervisory committees at various levels to ensure strict compliance with legal and ethical standards. It enforces tough regulations against kidnapping, banditry, illicit drug trade, and the unlawful use of properties for criminal purposes.
Landlords, property owners, and hospitality businesses are mandated to conduct due diligence in tenant and guest identification, with stipulated penalties for offenders to strengthen enforcement.
The government emphasised the critical role of traditional and civil institutions in achieving a crime-free state, acknowledging their influence in crime prevention and community stability.
Since the implementation of these measures, security forces have arrested several kidnappers, demolished hideouts, and carried out successful raids in Ozubulu, Isiagu, Oba, and Nnewi, among other locations.
Notably, eight local government areas – Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, Orumba South, and Ogbaru – which were once under siege, have been liberated through the coordinated security efforts of the Soludo administration.
