APC candidate Mathew Daje wins Munya bye-election in Niger State

 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mathew Dogara Daje, winner of the bye-election conducted last Saturday in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.



Daje won the election with a margin of over 6,000 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Sabo Sunday Adabyinlo, who scored 5,646 votes.

The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Abdulkarim Ambali Saka of FUT Minna, made the announcement at Sarkin Pawa, headquarters of Munya Local Government. He disclosed that the APC scored a total of 12,556 votes while the PDP secured 5,646.

According to him, the bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Niger State House of Assembly following the death of Joseph Haruna Duza of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP candidate, Sabo Sunday Adabyinlo, alleged that state resources were used to influence the election in favour of the APC, accusing the ruling party of vote buying and intimidation.

In his acceptance remarks, APC’s Mathew Dogara Daje expressed gratitude to Governor Umaru Bago and APC supporters across Munya Local Government for their support during the election.

While observers and residents commended the peaceful nature of the poll, political tensions lingered despite high voter turnout in some polling units, with others recording low participation.
