Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has warned a political support group, ADC Vanguard, against fabricating and circulating false statements in his name.
Posting on his official X handle on Thursday, El-Rufai explained that while he has his own channels to convey opinions, he never issued the remarks attributed to him.
“Dear ADC Vanguard, please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my own social media accounts where I can share my views and opinions.
“I am going to disown the statements you created and attributed, not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them. That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith,” he stated.
The caution followed a now-deleted post in which ADC Vanguard had falsely claimed that El-Rufai described President Bola Tinubu’s administration as “Nigeria’s most corrupt and dishonest government” that had perfected “the act of looting shamelessly while deceiving confidently.”
ADC Vanguard later issued a public apology, admitting its error. “Dear Mallam El-Rufai, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. It was never our intention to misrepresent or attribute statements to you.
“We respect your voice and your platforms as the proper channels for your views,” the group noted, pledging to rely only on verified sources in future communications. It also expressed appreciation to El-Rufai for pointing out the misrepresentation “clearly and respectfully.”
