The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated its National Convention Zoning Committee (NCZC) to determine the zoning arrangement for national offices ahead of its elective convention in November.
Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja on Thursday, acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, urged the committee to be guided by justice, inclusivity, and the vision of a stronger party. He described the panel as the “engine room” that would lay the political foundation for the PDP’s next leadership and strengthen its capacity to win elections.
Damagum stressed the need for leaders of integrity, vision, and competence, noting that the zoning process must reflect fairness, reward loyalty, and foster unity. He also reminded members that both principal and deputy positions are crucial, citing his own emergence as acting national chairman from a deputy role.
National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, called the committee’s work critical to the party’s future, while Senate Minority Leader, Abba Morro, warned against repeating mistakes from past zoning arrangements.
Representatives of the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum pledged full support for the committee, with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressing confidence that the team would deliver a zoning formula capable of positioning the party for victory in 2027.
Committee Chairman and Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri, promised a consultative and inclusive approach to ensure a fair and just outcome.
