ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reinstated Dr. Danlami Hayyo as Mandate Secretary for the Education Secretariat and Mr. Michael Ango as Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS). The directive, effective immediately, was announced on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, amid the minister's ongoing efforts to enforce discipline and enhance service delivery in the FCT Administration (FCTA).
The reinstatement was confirmed in a statement issued by Wike's Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. "The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reinstated the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, and the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service, Mr Michael Ango," the statement read. It added that Wike "warned that acts of indiscipline will not be tolerated among officials of the FCTA" and directed both officials to resume duty without delay.
Hayyo was suspended indefinitely on November 25, 2025, following the circulation of an unauthorized memo directing public senior secondary schools in the FCT to close by November 28 due to alleged security concerns. The memo, signed by Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services, caused widespread panic among parents and students. The FCTA quickly debunked the directive, stating no such decision had been authorized at any level. Wike subsequently ordered the acting Head of Service, Nancy Nathan, to initiate disciplinary action against Alhassan in accordance with civil service rules. Hayyo distanced himself from the memo, claiming it was issued without his knowledge or approval.
Ango, appointed acting chairman by President Bola Tinubu in August 2024, was relieved of his duties on December 5, 2025, with no official reason provided at the time. The most senior director in the FCT-IRS was directed to assume interim leadership. Ango, praised for his professional background in revenue administration and financial management, had overseen significant improvements, including N262 billion in revenue collection for 2024—surpassing the N250 billion target and exceeding the previous year's N211.1 billion. Last month, FCT-IRS staff honored him at an event titled "A Night with Ango," commending his visionary leadership and staff development initiatives.
The reinstatements signal a resolution to recent administrative disruptions while reinforcing Wike's stance on accountability. In recent months, the minister has implemented several reshuffles across FCTA agencies as part of broader reforms to boost efficiency, revenue generation, and governance standards in the nation's capital.
Observers note that these actions reflect Wike's hands-on approach since assuming office in 2023, balancing decisive enforcement with opportunities for correction. The FCTA has emphasized its commitment to transparent operations and improved public services, including education and revenue mobilization critical to funding infrastructure and development projects in Abuja.
