In a festive display of goodwill and partnership, Sir Festus Ahon, Chief Press Secretary to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, hosted members of the Delta State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at his residence in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area. The courtesy visit provided an opportunity for Ahon to reaffirm the administration's unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, enduring projects while prioritizing the welfare of Deltans.
Ahon emphasized that Governor Oborevwori's leadership places citizens' well-being at the heart of governance, ensuring that infrastructural developments and social programs are people-oriented and sustainable. "The administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains steadfast in delivering people-oriented governance despite the scale of infrastructural and developmental demands across the state," Ahon stated.
He praised the governor's achievements, noting that in just two years, Oborevwori has accomplished more than some states have in eight years, with projects designed to "stand the test of time and outlive this generation." These initiatives, Ahon added, provide real value to Deltans without relying on borrowing, demonstrating fiscal discipline. "The governor will not compromise the welfare of Deltans, and importantly, none of these projects is being funded through loans."
The spokesperson highlighted the administration's MORE Agenda—Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—as the blueprint guiding these efforts. Numerous capital projects, including road networks, health facilities, educational upgrades, and social interventions, are ongoing across Delta's three senatorial districts, reflecting equitable distribution and inclusivity.
Ahon expressed gratitude for the NUJ's visit and appealed for continued media collaboration in fostering peace, stability, and good governance. Describing Governor Oborevwori as "media-friendly," he pledged ongoing support for journalists' welfare, stating, "We will continue to make efforts to improve the welfare of journalists in the state. We need your continued support because when there is peace, development moves faster." He assured that his office remains accessible to the union and that their requests would receive prompt attention.
Leading the NUJ delegation, State Council Chairman Comrade Churchill Oyowe thanked Ahon and Governor Oborevwori for recent gestures, including support extended to all NUJ chapels during the Christmas season—an act described as unprecedented. "All the chapels in the state felt the magnanimity of the state government through your office," Oyowe said, emphasizing the importance of gratitude.
Oyowe appealed for sustained goodwill, specifically reminding Ahon of pending requests for a utility bus and a 200kVA step-down transformer to aid the union's operations. "Today, we came to say thank you... May God bless you and our Governor for all you have been doing."
This interaction underscores the Oborevwori administration's emphasis on harmonious relations with the media as a pillar for transparent governance. In related developments, the governor's Christmas message, issued by Ahon, urged Deltans to embrace love, unity, and Christ-like living, while reaffirming commitments to equitable development and improved quality of life.
The administration's track record includes significant investments in infrastructure, such as road rehabilitations, flyovers, and energy projects, alongside social programs empowering vulnerable groups like widows, youths, and small business owners. These efforts align with broader goals of fiscal prudence, job creation, and human capital development, positioning Delta State for sustained progress.
As 2025 draws to a close, stakeholders commend the government's proactive approach, with media partnerships playing a key role in disseminating achievements and fostering public trust. The NUJ visit symbolizes mutual respect and shared objectives in advancing Delta's development narrative.
