Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has claimed he is the second most abused politician in Nigeria after President Bola Tinubu, attributing the criticism to his firm stance on honouring political agreements. Wike made the remarks on Saturday, December 27, 2025, while addressing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Ochigba, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The meeting occurred during an end-of-year thanksgiving service organised by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the South-South Development Commission, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, in his hometown. Wike used the platform to reiterate his unwavering support for President Tinubu, emphasising that agreements made before and during the 2023 elections remain binding.
“After Tinubu, the next most abused politician today is me. Why are they abusing me? Because they know that agreement is agreement. When we have agreed on something, let’s implement it. If we can’t implement it, don’t even come for it,” Wike stated. He highlighted his group's early and bold backing of Tinubu when support was politically risky in Rivers State, contrasting it with those he described as "latecomers" now vocal in loyalty.
Wike recounted the 2023 election dynamics: “In 2023, it was difficult for so many people to come out to say, vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But we all met and agreed that in politics you must take a stand... We did it when it was difficult to say ‘on your mandate we stand,’ and to the glory of God, we are standing today.” He assured stakeholders that their efforts strengthened Tinubu's mandate in Rivers and vowed continued alignment: “So for us, long before now we have agreed that we must make sure that we will continue to support Tinubu. That is the position you took and that is the position we are going to still take.”
The FCT Minister thanked Ahoada East and West residents for their loyalty, hinting at renewed political activity from January 2026. He criticised opportunistic supporters absent during challenging times but now prominent.
Wike's comments come amid ongoing Rivers State political tensions, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara's recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and broader PDP-APC realignments. As a key Tinubu ally despite remaining in PDP, Wike's loyalty has drawn both praise and criticism.
The thanksgiving event featured cultural displays and stakeholder interactions, underscoring Wike's enduring influence in Rivers politics.
