The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, declared that the party’s recent electoral successes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council polls and bye-elections in Rivers and Kano States clearly demonstrate the APC’s unmatched capacity to deliver and its status as the most reliable political platform in Nigeria.
Speaking during the inauguration of sub-committee members for the APC’s national convention scheduled for March 26–27, 2026, in Abuja, Yilwatda described the convention not merely as a routine gathering but as “an affirmation of our democratic values, a celebration of our internal democracy, and a demonstration to Nigerians that the APC remains the most organised, forward-looking, and viable political party for anyone seeking to contest elections in Nigeria.”
He pointed to the just-concluded elections as tangible evidence of the party’s growing dominance and organisational strength:
- In the FCT area council polls, the APC secured five out of six seats.
- In Kano State’s bye-elections, the party won both House of Assembly seats contested.
- In Rivers State, the APC claimed four out of four available seats and triumphed in 45 out of 65 councillorship positions.
“This demonstrates the capacity of our party to deliver. It also puts to rest the noise from the opposition claiming that Abuja belongs to them. We have demonstrated that there is no presence of the so-called coalition in the states where the elections were conducted,” Yilwatda stated.
The chairman emphasized that the APC’s structure is working closely with the National Working Sub-Committee to ensure a transparent, credible, and successful convention. He urged all sub-committee members to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, drawing on their experience to uphold the party’s constitution and guidelines.
Yilwatda reaffirmed the party’s commitment to deepening internal democracy and positioning itself as the preferred choice for politicians and voters nationwide. “The APC is the most reliable political platform for any politician seeking elective positions across the nation,” he asserted.
The inauguration of the sub-committees follows the party’s earlier resolution to adopt a unified messaging strategy and strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections. With President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its third year and mid-term elections approaching in several states, the convention is expected to serve as a critical platform to elect new national officers, review performance, reinforce unity, and project a cohesive message of progress under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The recent electoral gains in FCT, Rivers, and Kano have boosted morale within the APC and are being leveraged to counter opposition narratives of declining influence. Party leaders view these victories as validation of the administration’s policies and the effectiveness of coordinated campaigns at the grassroots level.
As preparations for the March convention intensify, the APC has reiterated its dedication to internal transparency, inclusivity, and adherence to democratic principles—values it says distinguish the party and position it strongly for future electoral contests.
