Abuja, February 12, 2026 – Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has described Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as a leader who is “redefining excellence in governance” following his recognition as Governor of the Year 2025 by Leadership Newspapers at the 18th Leadership Annual Conference and Awards held on Thursday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner Aniagwu gave glory to God for what he called the “outstanding leadership qualities” bestowed upon Governor Oborevwori. He noted that every public appearance by the governor brings fresh inspiration, renewed hope, and clear direction for the people of Delta State.
“First of all, I give God the glory for being wonderful to our leader, a man who has come to redefine excellence,” Aniagwu said. “Each time he steps out, he brings something that warms the hearts of the people and provides positive direction.”
The commissioner expressed deep pride in the national recognition of the governor’s performance, emphasizing that the Oborevwori administration’s achievements are now being acknowledged far beyond Delta State.
“For what we are doing in Delta to be so recognized nationally is something we take pride in,” he stated. “I feel very happy being associated with him. The fact that credible organizations are recognizing that the governor is doing wonders is quite welcoming.”
Aniagwu explained that while the state government does not actively lobby for awards, some recognitions are impossible to ignore due to the credibility and standing of the awarding bodies.
“As someone at the center of advancing His Excellency’s engagements, there are times we are cautious so that people do not think we are chasing awards,” he said. “But there are awards we cannot resist because of the standing of those conferring them.”
He stressed that Governor Oborevwori’s primary focus remains delivering value to the lives of Deltans—a commitment that has naturally attracted widespread commendation from reputable national media and institutions.
“His business is to add value to the lives of Deltans,” Aniagwu declared. “Today, many people across the country are saying that so much is happening in Delta. That is why you are seeing a plethora of awards coming from left to right. We are happy about this particular award and we do not take it for granted.”
The commissioner referenced a growing list of recent honours, including recognitions from Vanguard Newspapers, New Telegraph, Silverbird, Arise Television, and others. He specifically highlighted New Telegraph’s latest endorsement of Governor Oborevwori as the number one governor in terms of performance.
“The fact that the New Telegraph is once again recognizing him as the number one governor in terms of performance speaks volumes,” Aniagwu said. “It is like a pat on the back, showing that credible outfits are monitoring what is happening in Delta.”
He emphasized that these external validations silence any skepticism and prove that the administration’s progress is real and measurable.
“When we say the governor is performing, nobody can dismiss it as mere loyalty from staff or associates,” he noted. “These recognitions are coming from outside Delta—from Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Kaduna, and other parts of the country. It shows that we are not alone in acknowledging the progress being made.”
Aniagwu further commended Governor Oborevwori’s prudent management of state resources, pointing out that the administration has achieved remarkable feats without incurring unnecessary debt or financial strain.
“We appreciate the fact that the government is achieving these exploits without having to put up a dime from anywhere,” he said. “That speaks to its ability to manage resources effectively, which is why not long ago the governor declared that Delta is financially stable and sovereign. You know what that means at a time like this.”
He concluded by reaffirming the administration’s unwavering commitment to sustained development, responsible governance, and the continued delivery of dividends of democracy to every corner of Delta State.
“We give God the glory and appreciate our governor for leading us in the right direction,” Aniagwu added.
The 18th Leadership Annual Conference and Awards served as a platform for celebrating excellence in leadership while addressing critical national and continental issues under the theme “Political Stability and Sustainable Development in Africa in an Increasingly Unstable Global System: A Roadmap for Nigeria.”
Governor Oborevwori’s recognition reinforces his growing national profile as a high-impact leader whose administration continues to transform Delta State through massive infrastructure renewal, social investment, fiscal prudence, and inclusive governance.
