Asaba, Delta State, February 13, 2026 – Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the disbursement of 2025 bursary awards for Delta State students studying in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria, alongside scholarship support for students with disabilities and children of deceased civil servants, as well as financial assistance for Delta indigenes at the Nigerian Law Schools.
The approval reaffirms the Oborevwori administration’s strong commitment to education as a cornerstone of human capital development, sustainable growth, and youth empowerment under the MORE Agenda.
The Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Dr. Godfrey Enita, announced the development on Thursday, February 12, 2026, during a high-level meeting with the national executives of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) held in Asaba.
Dr. Enita explained that the governor’s directive came in direct response to concerns raised by students over delays in processing the 2025 bursary payments. He assured the student leaders that the board had already commenced the processing of payments for the approved bursaries and scholarships, and that the special financial assistance package earlier approved for Delta State students at the Nigerian Law Schools was also being actively processed.
A total of 33,064 students will benefit from the 2025 bursary awards. In addition:
545 children of deceased civil servants will receive scholarship support.
51 students with disabilities will be awarded scholarships.
533 Delta indigenes enrolled in the Nigerian Law Schools will benefit from the dedicated financial assistance package.
Dr. Enita emphasized that the governor’s gesture is aimed at easing the financial burden on students and their families, particularly amid ongoing economic challenges. He reiterated that the Oborevwori administration places a high premium on education, viewing it as a critical pillar for sustainable development and the advancement of human capital in Delta State.
The NADESSTU national executives, led by President Comrade Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph and Senate President Comrade Idiseru Alex, welcomed the announcement with appreciation and described the approval as timely, impactful, and deeply reassuring.
The student leaders expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his responsiveness and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Delta State students. They pledged continued loyalty and support to the state government, noting that the bursary and scholarship funds would significantly reduce the financial strain on many students and their families, enabling them to focus on academic excellence.
The meeting underscored the strong partnership between the Delta State Government and student bodies in promoting education and youth development. The timely intervention and approval have been widely praised as evidence of the administration’s people-centered approach and dedication to fulfilling its promises.
This latest initiative builds on Governor Oborevwori’s record of sustained investment in education, including school rehabilitation, teacher recruitment, bursary continuity, university support, and skills acquisition programmes for young people. The bursary and scholarship disbursements are expected to provide immediate relief and encouragement to thousands of Delta students at a critical time.
As processing continues, the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board has assured beneficiaries that payments will be made promptly and transparently, in line with the governor’s directive.
