Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, on his election as the new Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.
The election took place during the General Meeting of the Conference held in Abuja on Monday, February 9, 2026. Guwor’s emergence as Chairman is widely regarded as a major milestone, positioning Delta State at the forefront of legislative leadership in the country and reinforcing inter-parliamentary cooperation among the 36 state Houses of Assembly.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described Guwor’s election as “well-deserved” and a clear reflection of the Speaker’s extensive legislative experience, strong leadership credentials, and unwavering commitment to democratic principles and good governance.
The Governor, who previously served as Treasurer and later Deputy Chairman of the Conference of Speakers during his own tenure as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, emphasized the strategic importance of the Conference within Nigeria’s democratic framework. He noted that the body plays a vital role in fostering collaboration among state legislatures, harmonizing legislative practices, and supporting the advancement of good governance across the federation.
