Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has extended warm congratulations to Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, on her well-deserved conferment with the prestigious traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse (meaning "Light of God") of the Warri Kingdom by His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.
The historic ceremony took place on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in Warri, Delta State, marking the first time this revered title has been bestowed in the history of the Warri Kingdom. The honour acknowledges the First Lady’s maternal lineage from the Itsekiri ethnic group, her lifelong dedication to humanitarian service, women’s empowerment, social welfare, and her significant contributions to national leadership and stability.
Alongside the chieftaincy title, Senator Tinubu was decorated with the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI), the second-highest honour in the Warri Kingdom, reserved for individuals of exceptional distinction linked to the Itsekiri nation.
In a statement, Senator Dafinone described the recognition as a profound tribute to Her Excellency’s unwavering commitment to uplifting the vulnerable through initiatives such as the Renewed Hope Initiative, as well as her stabilising influence in national politics alongside her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
He prayed that the Almighty continue to grant the First Lady divine strength, wisdom, and grace, and that she remain a steadfast pillar of support to the President as they work together to realise the Renewed Hope Agenda for a more prosperous and united Nigeria.
The grand event drew prominent dignitaries, including former and current leaders from Delta State, and was celebrated as a moment of deep cultural pride, reinforcing the strong ties between the Warri Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
