Gusau, Zamfara State – February 20, 2026 — Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Friday presented vehicles to 40 imams of Jumma'at (Friday) mosques as part of his administration's initiative to support religious leaders in fulfilling their duties.
The governor stated that the donation aims to enhance the mobility of the clerics, enabling them to conduct preaching, outreach, and community engagements more effectively across the state.
“Mobility is essential, especially for preaching and community engagements. That is why we have selected 40 Imams in this first phase to receive vehicles to ease their movement,” Lawal said during the presentation ceremony.
He emphasized that the gesture aligns with broader efforts to improve the welfare of religious leaders, including the ongoing construction of mosques and imams' residences. Lawal described Zamfara as a state founded on strong Islamic principles, with imams playing vital roles in serving communities across all 14 local government areas.
The governor reaffirmed that supporting religious leaders remains a key priority and promised that the programme would continue beyond this initial phase. He also called on the beneficiaries to pray for enduring peace in Zamfara and Nigeria at large.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Sheikh Bello Almufty, commended Lawal for his commitment to truth, justice, and inclusive development. He highlighted that the administration has introduced tangible benefits for religious leaders, such as improved welfare packages and allowances for imams.
Representing the beneficiary imams, Sheikh Atiku Zawiyya expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the vehicles would bolster their service to the people. He prayed for the governor's continued success and for Allah's blessings on such initiatives.
The recipient imams thanked the state government and committed to using the support to advance peace, unity, and moral values in their respective communities.
This initiative comes amid the governor's recent efforts to strengthen various sectors in the state, including security enhancements through the distribution of armoured vehicles and equipment to troops.
The event underscores the administration's focus on religious welfare as a component of promoting social harmony and community development in Zamfara.
