The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced the screening of aspirants vying for positions in its National Working Committee (NWC), as preparations intensify for the party’s 2026 national convention.
The screening exercise, being conducted by the party’s Aspirants’ Screening Committee, is designed to evaluate the qualifications, experience, and eligibility of individuals seeking to occupy key leadership roles within the party’s highest administrative body.
According to party stakeholders, the process is a critical measure to ensure that only credible and competent candidates are cleared to contest, in strict adherence to the APC’s constitution and established guidelines.
Observers note that the exercise represents a significant step in the party’s efforts to reposition and strengthen its internal structures ahead of future political activities. It also signals the APC’s commitment to a transparent and orderly process as it prepares to elect new national officers who will steer the party’s affairs in the coming years.
The screening committee, chaired by Biodun Oyebanji, is overseeing the verification of documents and credentials of aspirants, ensuring compliance with the party’s requirements.
In a notable moment during the exercise, the committee also attended to the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda. In recognition of his leadership and contributions to the party, he was asked to take a bow, a gesture commonly used to honour distinguished service.
The ongoing screening process is expected to pave the way for a smooth and credible convention, where party members will elect new leaders to guide the APC’s strategic direction and consolidate its position in Nigeria’s political landscape.
