Hezbollah Launches Multi-Pronged Drone and Missile Attacks on Israeli Military Sites in Response to Regional Escalation

Beirut/Jerusalem, March 4, 2026 – Lebanon's Hezbollah announced on Wednesday that it carried out a series of coordinated drone and missile strikes targeting Israeli military installations in northern and central Israel. The attacks, described by the group as retaliation for ongoing Israeli aggression—including recent airstrikes across Lebanon—mark a significant escalation on the northern front amid the broader Middle East conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

In a detailed statement released through its official media channels, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for multiple operations:

A precision-guided missile strike on the Dado base, headquarters of the Israeli army’s Northern Command, located northeast of Safed in northern Israel.

A missile attack on the Giv’a drone control base east of Safed, described as a key facility for Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle operations.

A swarm of attack drones targeting the headquarters of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in central Israel, a major defense contractor involved in missile, drone, and aviation systems development.

Earlier in the day, Hezbollah reported launching a rocket barrage against a gathering of Israeli forces at the Metula site near the Lebanon border in northern Israel.

The group explicitly framed the operations as a direct response to “the criminal Israeli aggression that targeted dozens of Lebanese cities and towns, including Beirut’s southern suburbs.” Hezbollah emphasized that the strikes were calibrated to hit military and strategic targets in retaliation for Israeli actions.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that air-raid sirens sounded across northern Israel following launches from Lebanese territory. An IDF statement indicated that air defense systems, including Iron Dome batteries, intercepted the “majority” of incoming projectiles. No immediate reports of casualties or significant damage were released by Israeli authorities, consistent with the military’s strict censorship protocols on reporting impacts from Iranian or Hezbollah missiles, including restrictions on circulating related footage or casualty figures.

The latest exchanges follow a sharp deterioration in the Lebanon-Israel border situation beginning Monday, March 2, 2026. Hezbollah initiated attacks on Israeli military sites in northern Israel using rockets and drones, citing the need to respond to intensified Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon and the broader regional crisis triggered by U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. Those strikes, which commenced on February 28, 2026, resulted in the confirmed death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and numerous senior military figures.

In response to Monday’s Hezbollah operations, the Israeli military launched extensive airstrikes across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, targeting what it described as Hezbollah command centers, rocket launch sites, and weapons storage facilities. Lebanese health authorities and civil defense sources reported at least 40 people killed and nearly 250 injured in the Israeli raids. The IDF also confirmed a limited ground incursion into southern Lebanon, involving armored units and infantry operating in border villages to neutralize immediate threats and destroy infrastructure used for cross-border attacks.

The current flare-up represents the most intense cross-border fighting since the full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah that began in September 2024, following the initial outbreak of hostilities in October 2023. Since that period, Israeli operations in Lebanon have resulted in more than 4,000 deaths and approximately 17,000 injuries, according to Lebanese government and health ministry figures. The conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians, devastated infrastructure in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs (a Hezbollah stronghold), and caused widespread destruction in border communities on both sides.

Hezbollah’s Wednesday attacks coincide with Iran’s ongoing retaliatory campaign against Israel and U.S. assets in the Gulf following the strikes that killed Supreme Leader Khamenei. Iran has launched multiple waves of ballistic missiles and drones targeting Israeli military sites and U.S.-affiliated bases in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The involvement of Hezbollah—widely regarded as Iran’s most capable proxy force—underscores the interconnected nature of the regional crisis, raising fears of a multi-front war drawing in additional actors.

International concern has mounted over the potential for further escalation. The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon called for immediate de-escalation, while diplomats from France, the United States, and regional powers urged restraint to prevent a wider conflagration. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and resulting disruptions to global energy markets have added economic pressure to an already volatile security environment.

Analysts note that Hezbollah’s use of precision-guided munitions and drone swarms demonstrates continued advances in its arsenal despite more than two years of intense Israeli operations. Israel’s reliance on layered air defenses has limited the immediate impact of such attacks, but sustained barrages could strain interceptor stockpiles and force difficult defensive trade-offs.

As night fell on Wednesday, both sides remained on high alert. Hezbollah vowed to continue operations in defense of Lebanese sovereignty, while Israeli officials reiterated their determination to degrade Hezbollah’s military capabilities and prevent attacks on Israeli territory. With the broader Iran-Israel conflict showing no signs of abating, the Lebanon front has emerged as a critical flashpoint with the potential to dramatically widen the scope of the regional war.
