In celebration of International Women's Month 2026, Union Bank of Nigeria has reaffirmed its dedication to gender equity by launching a targeted campaign that prioritizes women living with disabilities and those raising children with disabilities.
The initiative aligns with this year's global International Women's Day theme, “Give to Gain”, and is titled “Give to Gain: Creating Pathways for Inclusion and Endless Opportunities”. It highlights the real-life experiences of women with disabilities while advocating for purposeful support systems to drive their social and economic progress.
Throughout March 2026, the bank is rolling out a series of focused programs to improve access, promote inclusion, and create lasting opportunities. Key activities include:
A major event at The Stable, Union Bank's multipurpose space in Surulere, Lagos, bringing together women with disabilities, caregivers, advocacy groups, and supporters for open discussions, mentorship sessions, and resource exchange.
Outreach to disability support centers and partnerships with schools to provide essential learning materials to female students with disabilities.
Customized mentorship programs aimed at boosting confidence and skills in areas like education, entrepreneurship, and professional careers.
Specialized business sustainability training for women with disabilities and mothers of children with disabilities, delivered through the bank's alpher women's banking platform and strategic alliances.
Internally, the bank is engaging its employee-led women's network, WeHub, to reinforce an inclusive workplace culture and advance career development for all staff.
These efforts build on Union Bank's ongoing mission to support marginalized groups and directly support United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5 (Gender Equality) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities)—principles the bank actively embodies rather than just references.
Olufunmilola Aluko, Chief Brand and Marketing Officer at Union Bank of Nigeria, emphasized the bank's approach:
“At Union Bank, inclusion is not an abstract ideal; it is a deliberate choice. While many conversations around women’s empowerment are important and necessary, women living with disabilities and women raising children with disabilities are too often left out entirely. This year’s theme, ‘Give to Gain,’ reflects exactly what we believe: that when we intentionally open access, support, and opportunity to these women, the value created extends to families, communities, and society at large.”
Union Bank's 2026 International Women's Day campaign serves as a powerful declaration: genuine inclusion means reaching those who have historically been overlooked, ensuring they have not just a place at the table, but one designed for enduring impact and opportunity.
