The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released its timetable for the 2027 general elections, announcing dates for the sale of nomination forms and party primaries, alongside the cost of forms for various elective positions.
According to the schedule, the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms will take place at the APC National Secretariat from Saturday, April 25 to Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The party also outlined a tight primary election calendar beginning mid-May, as aspirants prepare to contest for tickets across different levels of government.
The presidential primary is scheduled to hold between Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, 2026. This will be followed by the House of Representatives primary on Monday, May 18, and the Senate primary on Wednesday, May 20.
Primaries for State Houses of Assembly are slated for Thursday, May 21, while the governorship primaries will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
In terms of costs, the ruling party announced that its presidential nomination form will be sold for ₦100 million, making it the most expensive in the lineup. Governorship aspirants are expected to pay ₦50 million, while Senate forms will cost ₦20 million.
For those seeking seats in the House of Representatives, the form is pegged at ₦10 million, while State House of Assembly aspirants will pay ₦6 million.
The announcement has already begun generating reactions within political circles, with analysts noting that the high cost of forms could influence the number of aspirants, particularly at the presidential and governorship levels.
Observers say the timetable provides early clarity for party members and stakeholders, allowing aspirants to prepare ahead of the primaries. However, concerns are likely to persist over the rising cost of political participation, which critics argue may limit access for younger and less financially endowed candidates.
The APC is yet to release further details on guidelines for aspirants, screening processes, and possible concessions for specific groups such as women and youth, which have been features of previous election cycles.
With the timetable now public, attention is expected to shift to aspirant declarations, internal party alignments, and consultations across the country as the race toward the 2027 elections gradually gathers momentum.
