American pop star Katy Perry has strongly denied allegations of sexual assault made by actress Ruby Rose, describing the claims as “categorically false” and “dangerous.”
The controversy erupted after Ruby Rose, 40, took to social media platform Threads on Sunday to accuse Perry of sexually assaulting her during an alleged incident at a nightclub in Melbourne.
Reacting to a post about Perry’s recent appearance at the Coachella, Rose wrote: “Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at Spice Market Nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s**t what she thinks.”
As reactions grew online, Rose followed up with additional posts, elaborating on her claims and explaining why she had not spoken publicly about the alleged incident earlier. According to her, she initially framed the experience as a joke in order to cope.
“After it, I threw up on her. I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it,” she wrote.
Rose further alleged that she remained silent for years because Perry later offered to assist her with obtaining a United States visa, which she said influenced her decision not to speak out at the time.
“Later she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret. But I did tell ya’ll she wasn’t a good persona. Instead I got attacked by everyone,” she said, adding that she experienced what she described as psychological manipulation.
Reflecting on her decision to go public now, Rose stated that it had taken nearly two decades for her to find the courage to speak out.
“I was in my early 20s, I’m now 40. It has taken me almost two decades to say this publicly,” she wrote. “Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me.”
In response, a representative for Perry, 41, firmly rejected the allegations, stating that they are entirely untrue.
“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies,” the spokesperson said in an official statement.
The statement also questioned Rose’s credibility, alleging that she has a history of making serious accusations online that have been denied by those involved.
The allegations surfaced at a time when Perry was attending the first weekend of Coachella, where she was seen with her boyfriend, Justin Trudeau. The singer had shared photos and videos from the event, including moments of the pair holding hands and dancing during a performance by Justin Bieber.
Sources familiar with both individuals suggest that Perry and Rose have had a strained relationship over the years. One insider described their history as “complicated,” noting that the two were never close friends.
“Ruby and Katy have a complicated backstory, they’ve never really been friends,” the source said. “This allegation has come as a massive shock to everyone, though. Screenshots of Ruby’s messages are being shared around the music industry now, and people don’t know what to think.”
The dispute has since gained widespread attention across social media, with public opinion sharply divided. While Rose maintains that she is finally telling her truth, Perry continues to deny the allegations unequivocally.
As of now, no legal action has been publicly announced by either party, and the situation remains a developing story.
