Enugu APC Primaries Conclude as Governor Peter Mbah Secures Ticket with Landslide Endorsement at International Conference Centre

ENUGU, NIGERIA – The ruling political landscape of Enugu State underwent a historic transformation as the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) formally validated the sitting Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, as its official standard-bearer for the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election. Mbah’s consolidation of the party structure follows his high-profile defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC late last year, an executive realignment that successfully shifted the balance of power across the southeastern geopolitical zone.
The formal declaration was delivered at the prestigious International Conference Centre (ICC) in Enugu on Friday night, May 22, 2026. The announcement concluded an extensive nationwide vetting and internal voting process overseen by the Hon. Danmalikin Hausa-led Enugu State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee.
According to the certified data released by the national primary panel, a total of 397,370 accredited party faithful participated in the direct primary voting process across all 260 electoral wards on Thursday. The massive turnout culminated in a resounding victory for the governor, firmly establishing his leadership over the unified party machinery.
In a deeply reflective acceptance speech delivered before an audience of party executives, legislative aspirants, and grassroots mobilizers, Governor Mbah emphasized that the sweeping mandate was a responsibility he approached with profound humility rather than a sense of political entitlement.
“This moment is not one I take for granted,” Mbah stated before the packed auditorium. “For me, there was never a sense of entitlement. I accept this nomination with full awareness of the expectations that come with it, buoyed by the knowledge that it’s not an unfamiliar path for me.”

The governor expressed immense satisfaction that his administration had successfully dismantled the deeply rooted skepticism within the Nigerian electorate that campaign promises are merely rhetorical tools never meant for practical implementation. He noted that his core governance philosophy, encapsulated by the strategic mantra "Tomorrow Is Here," had successfully transitioned from an abstract philosophical concept into a visible, daily reality for the average citizen.
Mbah houses the argument that the structural changes in Enugu are now clearly visible in the routines of daily life, reflected in how people travel, how they conduct business, and how they access vital public services that were once unreliable or completely out of reach. He stressed that his administration has smashed the notion that promises matter more than performance, insisting that every single naira expended from the state treasury has been deliberately channeled to provide the people of Enugu with a tangible return on their investment of trust and faith.
Reviewing his administration's stewardship since assuming office, the governor detailed an array of achievements across critical sectors of the subnational economy, ranging from security stabilization to heavy industrial revival:
 * Security Infrastructure: Mbah noted that through the establishment of a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre and the deployment of modern security infrastructure, citizens can now schedule events on Mondays without the least apprehension, effectively ending the economic paralysis caused by legacy sit-at-home orders.
 * Educational Reform: The administration has rolled out ward-based Smart Green Schools across the state, ensuring that basic learning becomes fit-for-purpose and equips children with the technological tools required to compete in a rapidly evolving global economy.
 * Healthcare Access: To ensure that geographic location is no longer a barrier to quality medical treatment, the government has executed a policy to establish at least one fully equipped Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centre in each of the state's 260 wards.
 * Agricultural Modernization: Across rural agrarian communities, crop yields are rising significantly as the mechanical roar of state-subsidized tractors increasingly replaces backbreaking manual tasks like ridging and tilling once done exclusively with hoes and cutlasses.
 * Industrial Resurgence: The governor highlighted the resuscitation of decades-long moribund state assets. The previously desolate Songhai Heneke Farm in Ezeagu has been transformed into a active production site, while the United Palm Products Limited has risen from its moribund past to become a viable commercial venture offering direct employment to local youth.
 * Foreign Direct Investment: The state recently secured the launch of the Enugu Haier Factory, a landmark $20 million investment facility dedicated to the domestic manufacturing of modern digital appliances and electronics.
 * Aviation Expansion: Mbah pointed proudly to the launch of Enugu Air, a state-owned airline initiative operated in strategic partnership with XEJet. He emphasized that high-value aviation jobs that once felt out of reach are now accessible to local youth, adding that plans are actively underway to expand flights from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport beyond domestic routes to major global business hubs.
 * Urban Renewal and Transit: The administration has completed over 1,500 kilometers of road infrastructure, launched five world-class transport terminals, and introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mass transit buses to enable citizens to commute in dignity and comfort.
Governor Mbah explicitly acknowledged that the bold economic policies and fiscal reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the center had contributed immensely to these subnational successes. He noted that the federal alignment had made substantially more resources available to states, allowing them to invest heavily in critical capital development.
The Chairman of the Primary Election Panel, Hon. Danmalikin Hausa, highly commended Governor Mbah and the state’s party leadership for midwifing an exceptionally peaceful, credible, and transparent primary exercise. Hausa described the Enugu State APC chapter as an exceptionally well-coordinated model of internal democracy, consensus-building, discipline, and synergy. He concluded by thanking President Tinubu and the Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda-led national executive of the party for providing the exemplary guidance required to deliver a rancor-free, carnival-like primary process across the subnational level.
