Enerhen, Delta- Uvwie Council Chairman Leads Major Decongestion Exercise at Enerhen Junction
The Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni JP, has carried out a major decongestion exercise at Enerhen Junction aimed at restoring orderliness and improving the environment within the busy axis.
The exercise, which involved the evacuation of commercial tricycle operators, motorists, and roadside traders occupying the right and left ways around the junction, was conducted with the support of relevant authorities and council officials.
During the operation, Chief Ofoni observed that commercial vehicles and tricycles had encroached on road corridors, causing traffic obstruction and disorderliness in the area. He noted that the situation was undermining ongoing infrastructural and developmental efforts by the Delta State Government.
To address the challenge, the council chairman ordered the immediate removal of vehicles and tricycles obstructing traffic flow, while also issuing strict directives aimed at preventing a recurrence.
Roadside traders were equally instructed to remove their goods and structures from the road corridors to allow for the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians. The directive reportedly received full compliance from traders operating within the affected areas.
Chief Ofoni also directed community youth leaders to ensure that mentally challenged persons do not remain or sleep under the bridges around the junction, stressing the need to maintain cleanliness and public safety within the environment.
Speaking during the exercise, the council chairman explained that the decongestion initiative aligns with the development vision of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori under the MORE Agenda.
According to him, the roads and bridges constructed within the council area have contributed significantly to economic growth and improved transportation, adding that such infrastructure must not be misused or devalued through disorderly activities.
He assured commercial motorists and traders that the exercise was carried out in their best interest and appealed for continuous compliance with laid-down regulations governing the use of public spaces.
Chief Ofoni further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the development of Uvwie Local Government Area, pledging continued collaboration with the state government to sustain meaningful progress and urban renewal across the council area.
