The All Progressives Congress has achieved a total victory in the just-concluded local government elections held across Edo State on Saturday. According to the final results released by the state's electoral body, the ruling party successfully secured all 18 available chairmanship positions and claimed victory in all 192 councillorship seats that were contested across the various wards of the state.
The official announcement was made public on Monday by the chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr. Jonathan Aifuobhokhan. While addressing reporters, election observers, and party representatives at the commission's headquarters, the electoral chief confirmed that the candidates running under the banner of the All Progressives Congress emerged completely victorious in every single local government area and ward where voting exercises were conducted.
Mr. Aifuobhokhan provided a comprehensive overview of the entire electoral process, asserting that all phases of the exercise—including the initial accreditation of voters, actual voting, sorting of ballots, counting, collation, and the ultimate declaration of results—were strictly conducted in full accordance with the statutory provisions of the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law of 2022, as amended in 2026, alongside other applicable institutional rules and regulations.
Detailing how the final numbers were compiled, the electoral chairman explained that the official declaration of winners was the culmination of an extensive tracking system managed by field officials. Following the successful completion of the complex collation process at the various ward and local government collation centers across the state, the duly appointed ward and local government returning officers formally announced and declared the results within their respective jurisdictions.
The chairman stated that based on the official results systematically declared by these returning officers, the commission formally certifies that the All Progressives Congress won the 18 local government chairmanship seats and all 192 councillorship positions contested in the weekend election. He noted that the certified winners would soon receive their official certificates of return to authorize their transition into local administration.
Defending the integrity of the exercise, the electoral chief praised the conduct of his field staff, noting that the returning officers discharged their duties professionally, impartially, and in strict compliance with the established legal framework. He acknowledged that while there were minor operational and logistical challenges recorded in a few isolated polling units, these brief delays did not significantly affect the overall conduct, credibility, or ultimate outcome of the statewide election.
The commission chairman concluded his address by extending his appreciation to a wide array of stakeholders who contributed to the smooth execution of the democratic exercise. He warmly commended the participating political parties, the individual candidates, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, community leaders, youth groups, and women's associations, as well as the general voting public, for their highly peaceful and orderly conduct before, during, and after the casting of ballots. With this sweep, the All Progressives Congress consolidates its political dominance across the grassroots structures of Edo State.
