Popular Delta-based content creator, Odogwu Asaaba, has praised the quality of healthcare services at the Asaba Specialist Hospital (ASH), describing the state-owned facility as one of the best public hospitals he has visited in Nigeria after spending four days at the hospital to independently assess its services.
The social media influencer, who accompanied a pregnant family member to the hospital, said he observed firsthand the hospital's operations, interacted with patients and medical personnel, and documented his experience with videos and other evidence.
According to him, the hospital successfully carried out a Caesarean Section on his relative free of charge after another hospital had reportedly demanded more than ₦1 million for the procedure.
He said the patient received comprehensive maternal care, including surgery, laboratory tests, medication and postnatal treatment, without paying hospital bills, while the baby was delivered safely.
Beyond the free services, Odogwu commended the professionalism of doctors and nurses, describing them as courteous, dedicated and highly responsive to patients' needs. He also praised the hospital's security, cleanliness, modern medical equipment and uninterrupted power supply.
His review has attracted widespread reactions on social media, with many residents corroborating his claims.
Several commenters shared personal experiences of receiving free maternal and child healthcare at Asaba Specialist Hospital and other Delta State-owned hospitals, including Central Hospital Warri, General Hospital Sapele and Oghara Teaching Hospital.
Others explained that the services are provided under the Delta State Government's Free Maternal Healthcare Programme, which offers free pregnancy care, childbirth, including Caesarean Sections and healthcare for children under five years.
Some respondents also highlighted the Delta State Health Contributory Scheme, through which registered residents can access subsidised healthcare services.
Many contributors credited successive Delta State administrations for sustaining investments in healthcare infrastructure, while noting that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has continued to strengthen healthcare delivery under his administration's MORE Agenda.
The growing testimonials have renewed public attention on Delta State's healthcare initiatives, with many residents calling for increased awareness of the free medical services available across government-owned hospitals in the state.
