Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially sworn in the 21 newly elected local government chairmen, charging them to deliver transparent, grassroots-focused governance and to strictly shun all forms of corruption. The new council leaders, who secured their positions during the local government elections conducted by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, are set to serve a three-year term. The ruling Peoples Democratic Party swept all the chairmanship seats in the local government polls.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Yola, Governor Fintiri congratulated the 21 chairmen and the 226 newly elected councillors on their electoral victories. He urged them to work tirelessly to justify the trust and confidence the electorate placed in them. The governor explicitly warned the new council leaders against engaging in corrupt practices and directed them to reside within their respective local government areas rather than staying in the state capital.
The governor emphasized that as council chairmen, they represent the closest level of government to the people. He noted that they are in a strategic position to implement pro-poor policies aimed at improving the lives of rural communities. Fintiri further urged them to drive grassroot development by remaining accessible to their constituents and responding promptly to their immediate needs, adding that the impact of governance is best appreciated when it is felt directly at the local level.
Additionally, Fintiri called on the chairmen to foster close working relationships with traditional rulers and Development Area Administrators. He noted that such collaboration is crucial for strengthening public trust and boosting confidence in the government's activities.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated officials, the Chairman of Yola North Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin, expressed gratitude to God, Governor Fintiri, and the electorate for the opportunity to serve. He pledged that all the chairmen would discharge their duties with diligence and ensure that their respective communities enjoy the dividends of democracy.
