ABUJA, Nigeria — The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has revealed that he was among the high-profile public officials targeted and deceived by the operators of the fraudulent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Kalu made the disclosure on the floor of the green chamber during a plenary session on Wednesday. Addressing his colleagues, the lawmaker explained that his photographs have been circulating widely across various media networks, showing him standing alongside the self-acclaimed Director-General of the fictitious council, Adeniyi Adeyemi.
> "I was a victim, and I’m sure if you watch the news, you would see my picture all over the screen side by side with the purported DG of this organization," Kalu stated.

Narrating how the interaction came about, the Deputy Speaker explained that his office received an official correspondence in May 2025. The letter carried an official presidency letterhead and was explicitly signed from the Office of the Director General of the PFIPC.
Kalu admitted that the document initially sparked some internal skepticism due to conflicting details, but noted that the listed physical address—located on the second floor of phase three at the Federal Secretariat Complex in the Central Business District—lent the operation a layer of institutional credibility.
To safeguard his office before scheduling any formal meetings, the Deputy Speaker dispatched a verification team to inspect the specified secretariat location. Kalu explained that his team returned with a positive confirmation that the organization was indeed operating out of the federal complex, which ultimately prompted him to grant administrative approval for an official interactive session.
